Training for a full marathon has been much tougher than we ever imagined. After suffering an injury early on in training, which subsequently led to a three week layoff, it has been difficult to work our way back up in mileage. After our 10 mile run last Sunday it was very apparent that we still have a long way to go.
We have less than two months of training and the reality of it all makes the whole training process seem more daunting. It’s hard worrying about succumbing to injury on every run and doing everything in your power to stay healthy. At this point there is no room for error. We had built in a week at the beginning of training just in case we were not able to do a long run. After taking off an unintended three weeks the pressure has substantially mounted.
We have continuously said that if we are unable to run the full marathon it will be fine doing the half marathon. But, neither of us is truly ready to give up on running the full as planned. This weekend we will be running 12-13 miles, basically a half marathon, and we have no idea how we will feel when we’re finished. We just hope for the best and pray that we are pain-free.
I don’t know what’s in store for us in the upcoming weeks. I just know that we are doing our best to accomplish a goal we have set for ourselves. Whether our bodies tell us to stop or allow us to keep going, we will know that we have done everything in our power to finish what we started. For now we will just keep running and running and running.
